Basic information

Rules and policies applying to intramural 5 vs. 5 basketball teams and players.

Rules

The basic rules are those set forth in the NCAA basketball rule book.

Team responsibilities

Teams are responsible for keeping score of the game. Players are also responsible for calling their own fouls.

Scoring

Made shots inside the 3-point line scores 1 point. Made shots outside the 3-point line scores 2 points.

Length of game

Games consist of two 20 minute halves. If there is not a three point lead at the end of regulation, then the first team to get a three point lead in extended time is the winner. The team with possession of the ball at the end of regulation tie begins with possession of the ball at the beginning of extended time - a 3 minute period.

Fouls

In order to keep the game moving and to give the players more actual playing time we will not shoot foul shots. The ball will be taken at the top of the key by the team which is fouled.

Players

All players must be eligible players listed on your roster sheet. A team must have 5 players on the floor at all times. Substitutions can be made during checked balls or after a made shot.

Jump balls

A jump ball situation results in alternate possession of the ball.

After made shots

Ball is taken to the top of the key after change of possession or after a made basket. Defense checks the ball
