When members of the university community are compelled to speak out publicly either in print or in person on issues in society, the public sometimes identifies these persons as representatives of the university community. To avoid such misunderstandings, the following guidelines are adopted:
- When students identify themselves as students of the university, they should make it clear that they do not necessarily represent the view of the university.
- Organizations may use the name of Calvin University when they are performing the functions stated in their constitution. The organizations should make it clear that it represents only the view of the organization. Individuals who represent organizations should obviously seek the approval of the organization they represent before action is taken. The action should be in harmony with the guiding principles of Calvin University.
