Confessional Commitment and Academic Freedom

Confessional commitments and academic freedom are indispensable, interdependent elements that shape the ecology for Christian teaching and learning at Calvin College.

The confessions offer a set of both orienting convictions and boundaries in which academic freedom is exercised. While not every topic is addressed explicitly in the confessions, Calvin College commits to addressing every topic from a perspective grounded in the confessions. Practicing these commitments together in mutually accountable and encouraging ways will help us become at once more firmly grounded and hospitable to each other as we seek to serve together as faithful disciples of Jesus Christ.
