Calvin's new museum allows students to have a piece of the rock.
In honor of the grand opening of the Calvin College Bruce Dice Mineralogical Museum earlier this year, and remarkably high engagement rates among college juniors and seniors, Calvin has decided to offer a once-in-a-lifetime "On This Rock" giveaway. The grand prize will make one blessed couple's dream of owning a magnificent, conflict-free engagement mineral a reality.
Current juniors and seniors who have successfully participated in the "Senior Scramble"—the mad dash upperclassmen make to get engaged prior to graduating from Calvin—are eligible for this extraordinary contest. Couples may enter the sweepstakes by visiting the Dice Museum and completing an entry form which asks them to: (1) indicate which of the following minerals they would select as their prize: arenite, calcite, lignite, or pyrite and (2) vow to send their future offspring to Calvin College.

The grand prize winner will be randomly selected from all eligible entries and will receive a one-carat piece of the mineral of their choice. In addition to the grand prize winners, 95 finalists will receive prizes of beautifully petrified acorns (archival quality) recently excavated from Commons Lawn.
"This contest helps celebrate hundreds of love stories, as well Calvin's commitment to offering comprehensive liberal arts education in the Reformed tradition of historic Christianity while simultaneously ensuring a community filled with plenty of eligible Christian singles for over 100 years," said Calvin's director of betrothal April VanFoolstra. "We are delighted to provide this priceless treasure to the grand prize winners and confident this contest will supply the college with dozens of prospective students (in roughly 20 years or so.)"
