Each spring we have a room draw in order to place returning students in rooms prior to placing incoming first-year students.
1. Fall housing verification (Required)
- Details: All current residence hall students must complete the fall housing verification form. The form will be sent to you electronically and indicates your housing plans for the next school year.
- All residents MUST complete this form by February 22, 2024.
2. Room Draw: Assignment Process
- Details: Residence Life will take your fall housing verification form responses and work through the priority order to place returning students on their floors or buildings (see tab to the right). Once placements have been made, you will receive email confirmation of your dorm room placement for the coming school year. If you have any questions or would like to appeal your placement, you can do so via email and the team member will discuss other available options considering your priority rank.
- You’ll be notified of your room placement by early March.
3. van Reken Living-Learning
- If you would like to apply for a vanReken community, such as SOAR (Sustainability, Outdoor Adventure and Recreation), or the Perkins community please apply using the link below by February 22.
- vanReken Housing Application
- You will be notified of your placement before March 15. If you are not accepted into vanReken, we'll connect with you about an alternative placement.
Important Details
Single rooms
- Most students living in traditional halls will have roommates.
- Single rooms for 2024-2025 will only be available for upperclass students (High School graduation year of 2022 and earlier) and accommodated singles through the Center for Student Success.
The Room Draw process is designed to give preference to students who wish to return to their current residence hall, and even to their current floor. In addition, there will be a limited number of spaces in each hall for students who want to move from one building to another, depending on demand and the university's policy of balancing numbers of new and returning students in buildings and on floors. The order of priority for rooms, floors and buildings is determined as listed:
- Current residents of a room who remain as roommates have first priority to that room.
- Current residents of the same floor (different rooms) who become roommates for next fall will have second priority to open rooms on that floor.
- Current residents of the same building (on different floors) who become roommates for next fall will have third priority on either of their two floors where they currently live.
- Current residents of the same floor who become roommates but want to move to a different floor will have fourth priority to open rooms on the other floors, behind current residents on that floor.
- A resident of one building who wishes to room with someone from a different hall will have fifth priority to open rooms in either of their two floors.
- Students wishing to room with a specific transfer student or incoming first-year student in the current student’s building will have sixth priority to their current floor. Other floors in the building may be necessary, or other buildings altogether. If your intended roommate does not enroll, you will be reassigned by the housing office.
- Two residents who become roommates and wish to move to an entirely different building will have eighth priority to open rooms in that building.
Students will always have the opportunity to return to the same building next year depending on roommate choice and as long as they follow the process outlined. For van Reken hall, you must reapply and be accepted to return to your floor. Students who want to guarantee that they will be able to return to their current building should select a roommate from their current building. Students who want to guarantee that they will be able to return to their current floor should select a roommate from their current floor.
