The Bruce Dice Mineralogical Museum is delighted to have hosted over 200 guests at the Celebration Open House on Saturday, March 18, 2023. We enjoyed a wonderful community alongside an array of activities and displays:
From the dedication and opening on November 9, 2012 to today, God's handiwork in the form of spectacular mineral specimens and intriguing fossils has been on display. More than 25,000 visits have been recorded over the 10 years, including individual visitors and groups of various sizes. More than 50 geology students have engaged their mineralogy and geology knowledge as Museum Docents or Student Curators. Visiting displays over the years have included a piece of moon rock (on loan from NASA) and a piece of the Grand Rapids Meteorite (on loan from the Grand Rapids Public Museum). Mr. Bruce Dice was actively engaged with the Museum until his passing in November 2022. With immense gratitude, we have these reasons to celebrate and more!
Highlights of the Celebration:
- A walk-through history of the Dice Museum.
- The new Memories of Bruce Dice mineral display.
- Hands-on activities for all ages in the Dice Museum Classroom, focusing on mineral properties and viewing mineral thin sections through microscopes.
- Access to the geology teaching collection of minerals to learn and test knowledge of rock and mineral identification.
- An augmented reality sandbox with real-time topographic contours.
