If you would like to earn college credit while still in high school, consider taking courses as a dually enrolled student at Calvin. Our dual enrollment program allows you to enroll in courses not available at your school, all while earning high school and college credit. At Calvin, you will also discover what it means to think deeply about your passions.

To be admitted as a dually enrolled high school student at Calvin, please complete the following steps each semester:
Decide what course(s) you want to take. You will need to include that information in your application. Search available courses »
NOTE: Some courses, especially 200+ level, may have pre-requisites. If you have questions about which courses you are eligible to take, contact the Center for Student Success (successcenter@calvin.edu, 616-526-6155).
Start an application to Calvin. The application you submit will prompt your school counselor to send us an updated transcript and recommendation form.
First-time users will choose the Dual Enrollment Application in the drop-down Returning users will login to their account
Your counselor will submit a recommendation form and high school transcript, and review your requested course(s) to make sure it's a good fit. Once we have all of this information, you will receive an email about your admission for dual enrollment and important next steps to take.
After you have been notified of your admission, contact the Center for Student Success (successcenter@calvin.edu, 616-526-6155), tell them you are a dually enrolled student, and register for your course(s).
Because dually enrolled students may not join classes after they begin, all dual enrollment application files must be completed at least one week before the first day of classes. Incomplete application files will not be considered after the deadline has passed. The sooner a student completes their application file and is accepted, the greater the likelihood that they will be placed into their preferred course. Courses Available
Academic Transitions 111 (2 Hours): Academic Transitions will walk you through all kinds of practical skills you’ll need to thrive in college and the theory behind them: how to keep organized and stay motivated, how to take notes and read texts, how to study effectively and more. Master these skills before you start university to save time, energy and worry.
Communication 101 (4 Hours): Effective oral communication is one of the top skills all employers look for in employees. In this course, you will learn the fundamental skills of oral rhetoric—how to create a message strategically adapted for a specific audience and situation. You will also learn how to effectively deliver your speeches and how to be an engaged, thoughtful listener.
Finance 201 (4 Hours): Personal finance is a specialized area of study focusing on individual and household financial decisions: How much should I save, spend, and give? Financial planning is a process of setting financial goals and making decisions to achieve these goals, in an environment of risk. This class will consider financial goals for Christians and will provide information to help students be good stewards of what God entrusts to them.

Calvin’s Spanish Immersion program meets the unique needs of high school students who seek advanced, college-level Spanish instruction as the next step in the Spanish Immersion programs at their schools. Calvin partners with multiple schools in providing this service to students and their families.

Yes, we have two courses which are geared especially for dual enrollment—ASC 111 and COMM 101, and others which might be appropriate for dual enrollment.
All students who are not a part of a traditional school district (that has a UIC*) within the State of Michigan will be charged at the rates above.
All students who are a part of a traditional public or private school district (that has a UIC*) in the State of Michigan and are dually enrolled may be eligible for tuition reimbursement and will be billed as follows:
Calvin University will accept payment from the State of Michigan or from the dually enrolled student’s high school (with a UIC*) as payment in full for the student’s first class per semester (up to four credit hours). The course must meet the standards outlined in the Post-Secondary Enrollment Options Act. If the student does not complete the course, they will not be eligible for reimbursement. In the case of a withdrawal, the student will be responsible for the costs associated with the coursework taken.
After the first four credit hours, the State of Michigan will reimburse a predetermined amount per additional dual-enrolled class the student takes at Calvin. The dual-enrolled student will be billed for the difference between the cost covered by the State of Michigan and the remaining balance of the class (billed at the cost per credit hour rates noted above).

Billing Process
Students dually enrolled on campus during the fall or spring semester, or students within the State of Michigan (who attend a school with a UIC*) taking an online course:
If the preferred course meets the requirements under the State of Michigan’s dual enrollment reimbursement program, you will not receive a bill. Students who enroll in over four credits, or whose course does not meet State dual-enrollment reimbursement requirements, will be billed at the beginning of the semester at Calvin University’s published dual-enrollment tuition rates (above).
If the student is enrolled at a public school, the school must verify that they will pay Calvin University at an amount no less than the State of Michigan reimbursement amount. Calvin University will bill the school that amount, which should be reimbursed by the State of Michigan via established reimbursement channels. This is noted in the recommendation form sent from schools as part of a student’s admissions materials.
Dually enrolled students outside of the State of Michigan or students within the State of Michigan who attend a school without a UIC*
You will receive a bill at the beginning of the semester that will include terms of payment

Each student enrolled in Michigan’s public or private schools is assigned a unique identification code (UIC*) in the Michigan Student Data System (MSDS).
Note: Dually enrolled students are not eligible for academic, medical or counseling services from Calvin University. It is expected that students will avail themselves of any such needed services through their home school.
