Lukas is a junior at Calvin majoring in financial planning with an accounting minor. Lukas grew up in the Grandville area and graduated from Calvin Christian High School. He is passionate about spreading the importance of understanding personal finances and achieving financial goals. Lukas also plays football for Calvin. In his free time Lukas enjoys soccer, fishing, skiing, pickleball, and spending time with friends and family.

Nathan Weflen, NEXUS Program Coordinator

Nathan Weflen joined the Nexus program at Calvin University in 2021. In additional to Nexus, he teaches as an adjunct faculty in Calvin’s financial planning program. Nathan joined Calvin from a role in B2B sales in Chicago, IL with Shaw Industries. Prior, he worked at Goldman Sachs in their New York and Salt Lake City offices as a project manager on their Alternative Investments team and as a trading operations analyst. Nathan also works as an investor in the Grand Rapids real estate market, he and his wife founded a multi-family portfolio in 2017. Nathan graduated from Cornerstone University in 2014 with a bachelor’s in finance and economics. Nathan enjoys fly fishing, camping, supporting Manchester United, and board games. He and his wife reside in the South Hills neighborhood of Grand Rapids.

Dirk Pruis, NEXUS Director

Dirk Pruis received an MBA from the University of Michigan School of Business and a BA from Calvin College. He is the Vice President for Finance and Chief Financial Officer at Calvin and also leads the financial planning program. Prior to joining Calvin in 2014, Professor Pruis was a Managing Director at Goldman Sachs where he most recently served as the Chief of Staff for the Operations Division. He has spent a good portion of the 15 years prior to entering higher education in market infrastructure strategy for Goldman Sachs. Professor Pruis also held leadership positions for Goldman Sachs in offices in Japan and Mexico. Additionally, he has performed consulting roles for Goldman Sachs and previously served as an advisor to the board of Clarient Global LLC. Professor Pruis began his career in public accounting and worked as a CPA in both the Grand Rapids and New York offices of Deloitte & Touche.
