Center for Counseling and Wellness
If you have experienced sexual assault, discrimination, harassment or other event that needs processing, consider reaching out to the Center for Counseling and Wellness for support. Counselors are available to listen and help you process through what happened, how it has impacted you and what next steps may be helpful for moving forward. The center can also help connect you with community resources, such as the YWCA in downtown Grand Rapids, that offer free and specialized resources for individuals who have experienced unwanted sexual contact (either as children or adults).
To set up a screening appointment, call (616) 526-6123, stop by the Counseling and Wellness office (SC 368) or fill out a Sign-Up Request form online.

In Their Own Words
It is our honor to be trusted with this part of a person's story. We come alongside students to grieve, lament, get angry, pray...or just sit with them. Whatever is said to us is kept in confidence. When a student makes an appointment, they don't need to give a reason. We are here for whatever they may need.” Mary Hulst, Chaplain
Student Health Services provides confidential support, empathy, advocacy, and a safe space to those impacted by gender based violence such as sexual assault, dating or domestic violence, and stalking. If you or someone you know has been affected by a form of gender based violence, please know that it was not your fault and that support and resources are available. You can meet with the one of our providers to get information about options without initiating a formal report.” Laura Champion, MD, Health Services
The Center for Counseling and Wellness is here to support you in your journey of emotional healing. All of our counselors are trained to help process a variety of life challenges, including trauma and abuse, and we work in a highly confidential environment. Multiple resources (including individual and group counseling) are available to survivors through our office. Let us know how we can help!” Irene Kraegel, Director of Center for Counseling and Wellness
